Hospice usually begins when patients are diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less, and the patient chooses not to seek curative treatment. Patients and families benefit most when hospice begins early. The goal is for patients to be as comfortable and pain free as possible so they may spend the last chapter of life with dignity surrounded by family and friends. The family also receives extensive support to help them through this difficult time.
Palliative Care is available when the patient and family are not yet ready for hospice, and you or your loved one may seek curative treatment. The nurses specialize in pain management, and the patient receives Oxford Home Health services with special care and support. When appropriate, you or your loved one may transition easily into the hospice program to receive additional benefits.
We Honor Veterans
We are proud partners in the We Honor Veterans program, providing individualized, respectful end-of-life services for former military members. These include programs, resources and benefits information tailored specifically to veterans and their families. The program is a joint effort of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Continuing Touch serves patients who have improved in the hospice or palliative care programs. Chaplains and social workers stay in touch with the patient and family, and they are available to assist when needed.
Bereavement Services are free to families served by Oxford as well as to the community. Seminars and individualized support groups are available to those who have suffered a loss, and professional staff maintain contact to help families work through the grief process.
